AI Credits & Billing

AI features in your quizzes (AI evaluation, AI auto-grading, etc.) are billed by actual usage and consume your team’s AI credits. This page explains what consumes credits, how billing works, when credits reset, and what happens when you run out.

What consumes AI credits

  • Scorecard AI evaluation: AI analysis of text answers that produces richer report insights.
  • AI suggestions (Beta): improvement/interpretation suggestions generated by AI in the report.
  • Fill-in-the-blank AI auto-grading (Beta) in Quiz / Random Quiz: when a fill-in-the-blank question enables “AI auto-grading”, AI decides whether the answer is correct.

Regular choice-question scoring, dimensional scoring, and template-generated reports do not consume AI credits.

“AI suggestions” and “Fill-in-the-blank AI auto-grading” are currently Beta features; their behavior and quality are still being refined.

Billing unit & models

  • AI credits are measured in Neurons (Cloudflare Workers AI’s billing unit).
  • Each AI call is charged by the number of tokens consumed, converted to Neurons: more input/output tokens means more consumption.
  • You can pick an AI model tier under Settings → Plan: Standard / Advanced / Flagship. Stronger models consume more Neurons per call. Free teams can use “Standard” only; Advanced and Flagship are Pro-only.
  • Charges are settled asynchronously after the report is generated, so they never slow down report generation.

Credits are only deducted when AI actually runs successfully; empty evaluations or failed calls are not charged.

Monthly allowance & reset (billing anniversary)

  • Every team gets a monthly AI allowance whose size depends on the plan: Free has a base allowance, Pro has a larger one. See the exact figures under Settings → Plan.
  • The allowance resets monthly, on the billing anniversary (not a fixed 30 days):
    • Pro: follows the subscription billing date; a new cycle starts on each renewal.
    • Free: resets monthly on the team’s own cycle.
  • Unused monthly allowance does not roll over; it is cleared at cycle end and reissued next cycle.
  • The current cycle’s reset date is shown under Settings → Plan → Cycle reset.

Topping up (Pro)

  • Pro teams can buy extra AI credits under Settings → Plan.
  • Pricing: 1 unit = 30,000 Neurons = $1, with a minimum of 5 units and a maximum of 100 units per purchase.
  • Top-up balance never expires and is not cleared by the monthly cycle.
  • Consumption order: the monthly allowance is used first, then the top-up balance.

What happens when credits run out

The behavior differs by how AI is used:

ScenarioBehavior when credits are exhausted
Scorecard AI evaluation / AI suggestionsGraceful degradation: the AI parts are skipped, while the report, dimensional analysis, and basic scoring are still generated normally
Fill-in-the-blank AI auto-grading in Quiz / Random QuizNew submissions for those forms are rejected (AI credits exhausted), because grading depends on AI and cannot be computed offline

If you are collecting responses for a Quiz that uses “AI auto-grading”, keep an eye on your balance — running out will prevent respondents from submitting. Restore it by upgrading to Pro, topping up, or waiting for the next cycle reset.

Low-balance reminder

  • When a team’s total available credits (remaining monthly allowance + top-up balance) drop below 20% of the plan’s monthly allowance, the system checks daily and sends a reminder email to the team owner.
  • Only one reminder per cycle; it re-arms after the allowance resets or a successful top-up.

Where to view and manage

Go to Settings → Plan to see: current cycle allowance and remaining, top-up balance, cycle reset date, AI model tier selection, and the top-up entry.
